We have a house full of uni students this weekend and as everyone starts congregating and getting ready for the night I am transported back to the times when I was 19 .. how different things are now and how grateful am I that I get to witness my children having their friends over for the weekend. I have no doubt it will be noisy, I have driven for miles to find a gas bottle for the bbq (co2 is in very short supply 😏) I have stocked the fridge but they will still be starving and I am fully prepared for the amount of bacon, eggs and bread we will get through but I would not change a thing ….and for now I am enjoying the calm before the storm being grateful for what is. Giving them roots and wings is one thing, but having them bring people home when they are adults takes it to a different level ….and as I sit here I am all too aware of the fine line we tread as both parents and adults.
Parenting is without doubt the toughest job of all and there are days when they test your own resilience to the hilt, but when you can start the day with a smile and end it with a glass of something you love, you know that the fine line between madness and joy is always worth treading and that simple word ‘mummy’ is one of the most precious words of all ….that can change the course of everything. I’m not one for living ‘without’ and I have never done labels, so living the life that feels good is always better than living the life that looks perfect, and being human means we know when to rest and when to play. May you always tread the line that allows you to always know when to reap and when to sow.
