Trauma is never the event but our memory of it and how it made us feel. Inevitably, what you define as trauma and what I define as trauma may be different, it is certainly not for either of us to judge each other’s lives and how we cope. What we can agree upon is that trauma is the experience of not being seen or heard and disconnecting from ourselves. If too much is thrown at someone, they will begin to seek more of what is familiar and fear anything else.
What must be remembered is that fear is part of being human and our goal is to allow the fear and yet trust that little bit more, not necessarily become fearless. Fear and trust cannot exist in our minds at the same time and when we notice which place we are operating from, we also give ourselves the time to shift our perception. Sometimes this is all it takes to go from impossible to “I’m Possible”. Remember, regardless of how much fear is surrounding you, take heed that fear only sells until we stop buying into it and when we do stop buying into it, trust and synchronicity become awesome partners in crime. As this time, trauma can lead us to an awakening where we can reclaim ourselves and our sense of purpose.
The traumas we face make us who we are and sometimes they are simply gifts in ugly packaging. We have to learn to acknowledge how life makes us feel, whilst using the past to guide us, not control us, and equally learn to be kind enough to ourselves to accept we are all doing the best we can with what we know now. When we know better, we will choose to do better and with this we learn to live with less regret, shame, fear, resentment and shame which in turn reduces our risk of ‘dis-ease’ of the mind body and spirit. Furthermore, when we learn true wellbeing is not the absence of ‘dis-ease’ but the mind, body, spirit connection, we start to notice each sliding door and accept what we are facing, whilst equally having a perception of the present moment that represents both our reality and our body chemistry.
