On the one hand I totally ‘salute’ Amanda Seyfried for speaking up about taking antidepressants because I utterly agree we should not be in any way ashamed of asking for help and accepting it when it comes to our health and wellbeing. It is time we stopped the stigma of ‘keep calm and carry on’ our health is suffering because of it and that is serving no benefit to anyone.
What however does make me a little ‘sad’ is that she sees the fear of not feeling ok as a reason to stay on them forever and yet there is so much the other side of fear … our true selves and the article implies that being on a low dose of medication is the best it gets.
Now do not get me wrong.. I utterly hear that we need need help to re-find our balance and sometimes this re-balance takes time and a huge amount of understanding BUT and it is a big BUT we are not here to survive and to find ways of ‘managing’ our way through our human experience we are here to live our lives well and to understand ourselves better and what makes us tick.
I am not saying we will see a world whereby everyone is grounded resilient and aligned with themselves but I do believe there is a world were we can become much more aligned with our own truth and still thrive and be brilliant at what we do .. and we can do it without having chemicals in our bodies to enable it .. It will take brave people to do it step by step in a way and timespan that works for the individual but it is possible.
Perhaps it will be for future generations to see the benefit but the seed is being sown and progress is being made.. we just need to remain curious enough to keep seeking our truth and trusting that with each baby step we take we come closer to our own truth and to living our lives well for longer.
In the meantime I massively salute Amanda for speaking up for the need for more people to be brave enough to say ‘help’ .. You matter, be brave be bold and know that a world with less judgement and more compassion is a world that is making progress.
